Why are there no billionaires who are a version of Batman?
I spent a few minutes thinking about it and came up with this:
- The things that Batman does, while they are good on an individual level, have never been the kinds of things that help society (excepting the occasional stopping of a mass murder, but we have more mass murders than have been stopped in all Batman comics, books, or movies). Bruce Wayne could stop world hunger or supply vaccines to an entire country, but Batman is a hobbyist vigilante. Batman as a fantasy construct of Bruce Wayne’s allows him to pretend to give a shit, but in reality absolves him from the greater implications of being a billionaire. Which leads me to…
- No one who is a billionaire got there via any means or method that could be considered moral by any person of decent moral fiber. 100% of the time, becoming a billionaire involves exploitation of other people on an obscene level. Which leads me to…
- People who find #2 disagreeable to themselves personally are not now, nor ever ever will be billionaires, nor do they really understand what kind of money is involved in being a billionaire. At best, they think if they defend “billionaires” on social media, then billionaires might give them a treat or a head-rub. Not going to happen. Ever.
